‘Eighteen years of Tory rule gave us two major recessions, three million unemployed, interest rates as high as 15% and thousands of people losing their homes through negative equity.

 

On May 1st 1997 that all changed. And ten years of Labour rule have now given us low interest rates and low inflation. Employment is at a record high and unemployment in South Thanet has more than halved. The national minimum wage and tax credits have made sure everyone is better off. There are 600,000 fewer children and 2million fewer pensioners living in poverty.

 

Waiting lists for operations that were over two years before 1997 are now cut to under 18weeks and emergency care is available when you need it. Schools are being rebuilt and there are more police on the beat than ever before and crime is falling at long last.
