Working for the people of the South Thanet Constituency

Delivery for South Thanet: 1997 to 2010

The Tories said there would never be a fast train in Kent - Labour built it anyway!

Since December 2009 - its been just 76 minutes from Ramsgate to St Pancras.

Thanet campus. South Thanet's own university campus—built on land donated by a Labour Council and with money from the labour Government.

A huge investment in the NHS has given us a world class local hospital at the QEQM Margate

New health centres like the Montefiore Medical Centre (left) and the Palm Bay Medical Centre ...

… and new NHS dentists in Sandwich, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Cliftonville.

Labours investments in the young people of South Thanet include … the magnificent new Marlowe Academy ...

… Sure Start Children’s Centres in Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Cliftonville ...

… and every secondary school is being rebuilt or refurbished. St Georges School is nearing completion (left), Hereson and Ellington are already in a new building, Charles Dickens and Dane Court are in construction and the Federation of Ramsgate Grammar Schools (Clarendon House and Chatham House) and Sandwich Technology are in the planning stage.

NB The Tories have stopped the BSF programme!

We now have three business parks (Manston, Eurokent and Thanet Reach) all obtained government investment which was extended to Sandwich to include the Richborough Corridor’ and the worlds largest windfarm, the Thanet Array, is under construction from Port Ramsgate. Once completed work will start from Port Ramsgate on the even bigger London Array. The picture, left, shows cable laying in Pegwell Bay.

Improved road infrastructure is vital too. Phase 1 of the East Kent Access Road Scheme has been completed thanks to funding from the Government and phase 2 is now under construction thanks to another £81m for the Government. When complete there will be a clear road from the Ramsgate to the Sandwich By Pass and from the East Kent Access roads to the M25.

And we didn’t forget bus users either! The Thanet Loop and Dover Diamond bus schemes would never have happened without Labour Government investment and thousands of older people would not have free bus passes either.
