Labour takes seat from UKIP at May 4th Kent County Council elections!

Karen Constantine became Labour’s new councillor for Ramsgate on Friday 5th May.  The UKIP vote collapsed  in Ramsgate as it did across the country and the strong Labour message that the campaign has communicated over the last 6 months clearly impacted on voters locally.  So close was the margin between the Conservative candidate and Labour’s other candidate, Raushan Ara, that there had to be a recount.  Unfortunately, Raushan missed becoming a councillor by 23 votes.  This just goes to show that every vote counts.

Karen will undoubtedly be a strong Labour voice at the Conservative dominated Kent County Council.  With all councils impacted significantly by central government cuts, our services are under the gravest threat.  Already slashed to the bone, services are being lost weekly.  Labour places the needs of the many, the needs of ordinary people, front and centre and continues to stand up for those needs.  Karen will be a champion of all in Ramsgate, speaking out against the cuts, against inequality and speaking up for dignity, decency and fairness.

Friday was nerve wracking, but I had an opportunity to say a few words.…my thanks to all those working to win. It’s all about the team! (Cllr Karen Constantine)

Congratulations from all in the South Thanet Constituency Labour Party!  And very many thanks to all who campaigned so hard for this victory and to all those who voted for Labour.   When we come together, we can win!
