Labour Councillors are holding a public meeting on the increase to women's state pension age on 9th July at 10 - 12 pm at the Oddfellows Hall, High street, Ramsgate. ( All welcome )
Women born in the 1950s are shocked to find they will have to work for many more years to qualify for their state pension and are losing tens of thousands of pounds.
We will be calling on Craig MacKinlay, MP & the Government to understand that the lack of proper notice for women amounts to unfairness and inequity, and will create further unnecessary  poverty for women, their families & our local community.
Newly elected Labour Group Leader Cllr Jenny Matterface with be chairing, speakers include:
Deborah Cartwright CEO Oasis
A WASPI speaker tbc
Cllr Karen Constantine
We will be highlighting the impact on local women, & will be signing a letter to our local MP asking him to do all that he can to reverse this inequitable policy.
We will be asking him to call upon the Government to
1. Introduce a taper which will allow women adequate time to make provision & to be able to avoid poverty in older age.
2. Mount an effective campaign to notify those women affected of this change.
3. Highlight the specific impact on women, their families and spouses/partners. This unfair policy will further exacerbate  and compound women's poverty especially where they are trapped in low paid, part time hours and insecure work.
The local Labour Party has passed a motion to this end & Cllr Constantine will be calling upon TDC to mount a campaign to alert local women.
