The South Thanet Constituency Labour Party is shocked and devastated, as is the whole Labour family, by the tragic killing of Jo Cox. The loss of a such a humanitarian, such a dedicated constituency MP and such torch bearer for human rights and the most vulnerable in all our societies is a cruel blow to the Labour movement, to the causes she worked so hard for and for the wider world. Mostly, of course, this is a devastating theft of a wife, a mother, a daughter, a friend to those who loved her the most and we wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. Jo Cox worked for compassion, for tolerance and for mutual respect and understanding and we intend that those values continue to inform our thoughts and work going forward.

Our EU referendum and Newington by-election campaigning have been suspended until Sunday.

One way of celebrating the life and work of Jo is by contributing to the fund set up by her family to support three charities close to her heart. If you would like to donate click here.
