CLEAN UP THANET

Labour will put more street cleaners back in residential areas, significantly step up removal of graffiti and fly-tipping, and make bulky waste collections more affordable. We will improve recycling rates and phase out the scruffy red paper collection bags wherever practical.

MAKE THE COUNCIL WORK FOR YOU

Labour will give residents new rights to challenge the council over service delivery, including its neighbourhood performance on waste collection and street cleaning, and a bigger say in the future of the iconic buildings and structures we all own before agreeing any disposals. We will lobby to cut the number of councillors and give the council a more public face.

DELIVER HOUSING THAT WE NEED

Labour will prioritise the creation of new council homes for affordable rent to local people. We will build them in sustainable locations with services to support residents and take the fight to government against yet more private housing on Thanet’s agricultural land. We will expand in-house temporary accommodation to stop out-of-area homelessness placements.

PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT

Labour introduced the council’s climate emergency resolution. We will deliver the commitment to net zero by 2030, including retrofitting buildings to save energy, more vehicle charging points, electric-only council vehicles, and promoting active travel. We will stand up to Southern Water over sewage dumping and service shortfalls.

BUILD A THRIVING ECONOMY

Labour will seize the latest regeneration opportunities for our towns, including reviving Ramsgate as a port. We will build closer links with local businesses, actively supporting Thanet’s important tourism and cultural sectors. We will ensure that public money is spent efficiently and buy goods and services from firms that provide local jobs wherever possible.
