Local Labour councillors are leading the fight to save the small enterprise workshops at the Thanet Enterprise Centre.

Thanet Enterprise Centre was founded in 1985. The untits at Dane Valley in Broadstairs currently support 22 thriving micro businesses.  The units are let on an ‘easy in, easy out’ basis at a reasonable rate. This means new businesses can find their feet and establish themselves without huge overheads. For other established businesses it means they can trade very successfully without taking on any debt or the stress and risk that developing bigger businesses often entails.

Thanet District Council have put these units up for public auction on 6th February 2017.  These units are 22 small businesses that together pay a rent of around £30,000 to TDC.  Small businesses that represent the effort, commitment and potential of hard working people supporting themselves and their families.  Small businesses that are exactly the kind of start-ups and more mature small enterprises that are so needed in our local economy.  

Labour has always fought for the rights of workers, be they employed or self-employed.  We know that there is huge local support for these people and what they already contribute to Thanet.  We join with them in urging TDC to rethink this decision.
