Election Address from Raushan Ara, the South Thanet Labour candidate in the general election
I have lived in Ramsgate and have run a local business for the last thirty years. During this time I have been involved with many local charities, helping the homeless and many others through community groups. Thanet is one of the most deprived areas in the country with high unemployment, low wages and many on insecure zero hours contracts.
Through my business and community work, I have become aware of the many issues that affect people’s lives locally. I have two children, one of whom has specific needs, and so understand the challenges faced in raising a family. I will fight for the people of South Thanet to get a better deal on housing, health and social care, education, job creation and fair wages for all.
I am friendly, approachable and committed to building a fairer future for the people of South Thanet.

Tackle the housing crisis: Councils need to be able to build affordable homes for rent and purchase.
- Improve education and skills provision for all:.. Promote a national education service that meets the needs and aspirations across all age groups.
- Improve employment opportunities: By developing a robust national and economic growth strategy, Labour will raise living standards and improve job opportunities.
- Invest in social care: Through fully funding care services for the vulnerable.
- Strengthen local communities: Develop long term policies and actions to support our vision for strong, sustainable communities.

I am delighted to endorse Raushan who has been a strong campaigner for local causes for many years. Raushan works tirelessly to support regeneration projects in South Thanet. She is very caring and works hard, standing up for vulnerable groups such as the homeless and disabled people. I am confident that she will do an excellent job of representing the needs and interest of all South Thanet residents.

Labour accepts the results of the EU referendum. Labour does not accept giving the Tories a free hand on the negotiations. We are determined to seek to protect the rights of workers and promote an environment in which businesses and manufacturing can flourish.
SAVE OUR NHS
Labour is committed to providing the NHS with the resources it needs to provide high quality services. Labour created the NHS and is now working hard with you, the people, to save our NHS from Tory cuts. It is too important a service to see it eroded by Tory privatisation.
THE FUTURE FOR COASTAL COMMUNITIES
Coast communities are unique and their needs are often overlooked. Labour recognises the need for a focus on reviving coastal economies. South Thanet has a wealth of opportunities that could be used to support community services.
